Heavy work

Fades out the moment you stop listening.

Back-to-back documents and browser tabs don't need a persistent widget competing for attention. Locked and idle, the overlay fades to invisible about three seconds after playback stops or pauses, and it skips the taskbar and Alt-Tab list entirely either way.

Coding

Resize it to a sliver and get out of the way.

Unlock the overlay from the tray or the Dashboard and drag any of its four corner handles down to a strip as small as 240×90 pixels. Drop the opacity, or switch to a monospace face like Consolas if that suits your editor better.

Studying

Turn off the motion and just read.

Show up to five lines of surrounding lyrics at once instead of just the current one, turn word wrap on so long lines never clip off the edge, and set the animation style to "None" for zero motion while you focus on the page in front of you.
